After the dance lesson, all characters swarmed the dance floor to jump start the evening of dancing at the Costume Ball. The joint was jumpin', and decorated with a more festive Halloween atmosphere than ever before, with cool lighting to boot! Everyone enjoyed oodles of Halloween candy and danced 'til late in the night to a collection of swingin' and spooky favorites! And amidst all the dancing, the Shim Sham was a definite "Thriller!" The Devil (who looked suspiciously like Vinnie) made his appearance, but no fear, we sent Wonder Woman to handle him. The most popular costumes this year? ...a tie between flappers and Rennies.
At intermission, we started the dancing parade of costumes, and audience members voted by applause for their favorites. Taking first prize (a massage gift certificate plus a free swing-dance pass) was a lady who appeared to have just gotten out of bed; not only was she having a bad hair day, but she was having a bad everything day! The audience seemed to sympathize, and awarded her the greatest & most raucous applause... congratulations to Therese, pictured above in the pink nightie, hair curlers, and toilet paper rolls. Second prize went to the Duke of Earl (Taylor), pictured above with the sword, hat & jacket. Brandishing an outrageous & unique costume, and showing his stuff for the fourth straight year (thank goodness it was a fake butt this time), the transvestite hooker (played by Steve) escorted by the sexy lady cop (played by Bea) took 3rd prize. Thanks go to Myrna & Shaneve for helping score the audience's applause. Honorable mention went to the Sam & Allison look-alikes (aka Phil & Alisa), the devil (aka Vinnie), and Miss Understood (aka Mindy).
